About
Sightline Press
A small imprint publishing applied reference material for finance professionals working inside technology functions.
Why this exists
There is a large body of writing on management accounting and a large body of writing on cloud engineering. There is very little for the person standing between them: the qualified finance professional accountable for a technology cost base that does not behave the way their training assumed.
That person is expected to learn engineering vocabulary, defend capitalisation judgements that the standards did not anticipate, negotiate against vendors who know their consumption better than they do, and explain all of it to an executive in ninety seconds. Almost none of it is taught. Most people acquire it by accident, from whoever they happened to sit next to.
This manual is an attempt to write it down properly.
On authorship
Sightline Press publishes under an imprint rather than an individual name. We would rather be judged on the work than on a biography, and the work is unusually easy to inspect before you buy: the full contents are published, six real pages are shown at full resolution, and two complete Excel models are given away without asking for payment.
We recognise that anonymity costs something. A named author with a verifiable track record is worth more than an assurance from a stranger. In place of that we offer inspection, a fourteen-day refund with no justification required, and sourcing you can check yourself.
How the material is sourced
- Method — technique that has been applied in practice, written as instructions rather than as theory.
- Standards — accounting content is written to IFRS as adopted in the United Kingdom, with the relevant standard named at the point of use.
- External data — attributed where used. Practitioner survey figures, vendor maintenance schedules and regulatory publications are named so you can verify them.
- Claims about the future — labelled settled, likely or contested, and where informed people disagree we say so instead of resolving it for narrative convenience.
Editorial standards
Three rules govern the manual. Nothing is included that the writer could not defend in a room with a finance director and an engineering director present at the same time. Where a technique changes by sector, the difference is stated explicitly rather than averaged away. And where something is genuinely uncertain, the uncertainty is the finding, not a gap to be filled with confident prose.
Corrections
If you find an error we want to know, and we will correct it and reissue. Buyers receive updates to their edition at no cost, indefinitely. Write to hello@example.com.
A United States edition, written to US GAAP throughout — ASC 350-40 for internal-use software, ASC 842 for leases, Section 174 treatment, and the federal and state employment position. Not a translation: the accounting chapters are being written again. Join the waitlist.
